Montessori Hundred Board Puzzle Task Cards | Number Sense & 100 Chart Challenges
Montessori Hundred Board Puzzle Task Cards | Number Sense & 100 Chart Challenges
When children already know how to complete the Montessori Hundred Board, they often need a new challenge that stretches their thinking without moving too quickly into abstract work.
These Montessori Hundred Board Puzzle Task Cards turn the hundred board into a hands-on problem-solving activity. Children use logic, number patterns, and their understanding of the 100 chart to complete missing sections of a puzzle piece.
Instead of simply placing numbers from 1–100 in order, students must think carefully about what comes before, after, above, and below each number.
What’s included
This printable resource includes:
- 36 hundred board puzzle piece task cards
- Puzzle-style 100 chart challenges
- Reusable task cards for laminating
- Independent maths work
- Extension activities for the Montessori Hundred Board
How it works
Children are given a puzzle piece-style section of the hundred board. They place a given number somewhere on the puzzle piece, then use number relationships to work out the surrounding numbers.
Many of the cards have more than one possible correct answer, which encourages flexible thinking, reasoning, and mathematical discussion.
Skills children practise
This resource supports:
- Number sense to 100
- Number sequencing
- Understanding the structure of the hundred board
- Counting forwards and backwards
- Recognising number patterns
- Place value thinking
- Logical reasoning
- Independent problem solving
- Confidence with numbers 1–100
Why this resource helps
The Montessori Hundred Board is a beautiful material, but some children quickly memorise the layout without deeply thinking about number relationships.
These puzzle task cards help children slow down and reason. They need to notice how numbers change across rows and columns, use clues, and test their thinking.
For teachers and homeschoolers, this gives you an easy, low-prep way to extend hundred board work for children who are ready for more challenge. It is especially useful for early finishers, maths shelves, small groups, and students who enjoy visual problem-solving.
Perfect for
- Montessori lower elementary classrooms
- Homeschool maths lessons
- Hundred Board extension work
- 100 chart activities

- Maths centres
- Early finishers
- Number sense practice
- Children who need a challenge beyond basic sequencing
