Build Fluency Without Rushing the Child

Fact fluency should develop from understanding—not replace it.

This resource gives children a gradual pathway from an ordered pattern to flexible recall:

1. Practise each addition table in order. The predictable sequence helps children notice patterns and relationships.
2. Complete the same table in random order. This checks whether the learner knows the facts rather than relying only on sequence.
3. Move into mixed addition facts. Children select a strategy without being told which table they are using.
4. Practise doubles. Secure equal-addend facts become useful mental anchors.
5. Apply near doubles. Learners use a known double to solve a neighbouring addition fact.
