Your child understands addition with beads or counters—but still needs to count from the beginning every time they see a basic fact.
That gap between concrete understanding and fluent recall is common. Children need enough repetition for addition facts to become familiar, but endless mixed worksheets can feel overwhelming and disconnected from the orderly Montessori sequence.
These Montessori Addition Tables Recording Sheets provide calm, structured practice with addition facts from 1–9. Children begin with predictable tables in order, then move into randomised facts, mixed addition, doubles and near doubles as their confidence grows.

Build Fluency Without Rushing the Child
Fact fluency should develop from understanding—not replace it.
This resource gives children a gradual pathway from an ordered pattern to flexible recall:
- Practise each addition table in order. The predictable sequence helps children notice patterns and relationships.
- Complete the same table in random order. This checks whether the learner knows the facts rather than relying only on sequence.
- Move into mixed addition facts. Children select a strategy without being told which table they are using.
- Practise doubles. Secure equal-addend facts become useful mental anchors.
- Apply near doubles. Learners use a known double to solve a neighbouring addition fact.
Particularly Helpful for Neurodivergent Learners
The pages use clear, low-distraction formatting and one consistent task structure. Children can work on one table at a time, predict what is expected and complete a manageable amount of practice without navigating a crowded worksheet. The ordered-to-random progression also reduces cognitive load while recall is still developing.
What Is Included?
- Addition tables 1–9 in numerical order
- Addition tables 1–9 in random order
- Mixed addition fact practice
- Doubles facts in order
- Mixed doubles practice
- Near-doubles addition practice
- Two compact tables per printable page
- Simple recording spaces for written answers
- Low-preparation pages suitable for repeated classroom use
The resource gives enough variety to support a sequence of learning without revealing every question in advance or asking children to complete one enormous workbook.
Use Alongside Montessori Addition Materials
These pages work especially well after children have used:
- Montessori coloured bead bars;
- the addition strip board;
- addition charts or finger charts;
- number-bond materials;
- counters or other concrete quantities; and
- doubles and near-doubles strategy work.
Children can continue using the appropriate chart or concrete material while recording their answers. As recall becomes more secure, the support can be gradually reduced.
Flexible Ways to Use the Pages
- Montessori maths shelf work
- Addition chart follow-up
- Independent work cycles
- Maths folders or work plans
- Small-group support
- Homeschool maths practice
- Basic-fact intervention
- Morning work
- Homework or home learning
- Quick formative assessment
More Than Rote Memorisation
As children move through the resource, they can begin to notice:
- the commutative relationship between addition facts;
- how totals change as one addend increases;
- patterns within individual addition tables;
- the usefulness of doubles as known facts;
- how near doubles can be solved by adjusting by one; and
- which facts are secure and which still need support.
Please Note
This is a printable recording resource. Physical Montessori beads, addition boards, charts and manipulatives are not included.
It is intended for children who have already received concrete addition presentations and are ready for structured written follow-up.
