Modern Montessori Reading Bundle
Science of Reading-Aligned Literacy Materials for Montessori Classrooms & Homeschool Ages 4–8+
Support early reading with a Montessori-aligned, Science of Reading-informed resource library designed for real children, real classrooms, and real literacy challenges.
As a trained Montessori teacher, former homeschooler, school founder, and parent of a neurospicy child, I have learned that traditional Montessori literacy materials — while beautifully structured — are not always enough on their own.
The classic Montessori Pink, Blue, and Green reading series can introduce reading in an organised way, but many children need more explicit, systematic, structured support to become confident readers.
This bundle was created to bridge that gap.
It brings together the clarity and research of the Science of Reading with the beauty, independence, and hands-on structure of Montessori.
Why I created this resource
Many Science of Reading resources are helpful, but they are not always designed with Montessori values in mind.
They may be:
-
cartoon-heavy
-
visually busy
-
worksheet-heavy
-
not self-correcting
-
not designed for shelf work
-
not aligned with Montessori aesthetics
-
not connected to the moveable alphabet
-
not suitable for children who need dignity and structure rather than “cute” materials
This bundle is different.
The Modern Montessori Reading Bundle gives you print-and-go literacy materials that are explicit, structured, beautiful, practical, and easy to use alongside Montessori lessons and equipment.
I have done the heavy lifting for you so you can spend less time trying to piece together literacy resources and more time teaching the child in front of you.
A Montessori literacy library, not a scripted programme
This bundle is a printable Montessori reading resource library, not a scripted day-by-day literacy programme.
It gives you a growing collection of ready-to-print materials, scope and sequence guidance, teaching notes, word chains, and follow-up activities that can be used alongside Montessori presentations, the moveable alphabet, your own reading lessons, or your homeschool literacy plan.
You do not need to use everything in order.
Use what serves your child.
Some children may need extra time at one level. Others may move quickly. Some may need repeated oral blending and segmenting before touching print. Others may be ready for sentence reading, spelling patterns, suffix work, or multi-syllable words.
This bundle is designed to support flexible, responsive teaching — while still giving you a clear path to follow.

Scope and sequence overview
The colour coding system below is my own original structure.
The bundle is organised into levels to help you see the progression of skills. Some levels include printable resources, while other skills are taught through the living scope and sequence using oral activities, word chains, teacher-led lessons, or Montessori equipment.

Printable resources are included for several early concept areas, while some skills are taught through the scope and sequence using oral language and teacher-led activities.

Can I buy individual items?
Yes. Many resources are available individually.
However, please note that individual items do not include access to the living Google™ Doc scope and sequence. The full bundle gives you the broader teaching pathway, instructions, word chains, hyperlinks, and updates.
You can use individual items when you only need one specific skill area, or choose the full bundle if you want the complete guided library.
Frequently asked questions
What ages is this for?
This bundle is designed mainly for children in Cycle 1 and lower elementary, approximately ages 4–8.
It is also suitable for older children who need structured reading support, especially because the design is not babyish or overly cute.
That makes it useful for older learners with disabilities, neurodivergent learners, intervention groups, homeschoolers, and children who need reading practice that still feels respectful and age-appropriate.
Does this replace the Montessori Pink, Blue, and Green Series?
No. It can sit alongside traditional Montessori reading materials.
Think of this bundle as a structured, Science of Reading-informed support library that strengthens and expands your Montessori literacy work.
Does this align with other commercial Montessori reading sets?
No. This is an original set designed from scratch by me based on Montessori experience, real classroom use, and modern reading science.
The colour coding system is my own.
Do I need to use everything?
No.
Use what serves your child.
I am a firm believer in teaching the child, not just teaching the curriculum. This bundle is designed to give you structure, but also flexibility.
Is this suitable for neurodivergent learners?
Yes. These resources are currently being used in my own microschool, where over 90% of students are neurodivergent.
The materials are designed to be clear, structured, visually calm, and practical. They also work beautifully for neurotypical learners.
Created by a Montessori-trained teacher
Montessori Kiwi resources are created by me, Lisa, a Montessori-trained teacher, registered teacher, former homeschooler, parent of a neurospicy child, and school founder in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Over the past five years, I have deepened my understanding of the Science of Reading through study, classroom practice, and direct work with children who need more explicit literacy support.
This bundle reflects that journey.
It honours Montessori principles while recognising that many children need clearer, more systematic reading instruction than traditional Montessori literacy materials provide on their own.

Montessori Kiwi uses wonderful realistic images on all of their resources and it’s much appreciated. All of the lessons in this bundle have thorough directions and even say what the child should know before beginning that lesson and points you back to a previous lesson making it easy to follow. I also highly appreciate that the printables have the built in control of error so the child can truly practice these independently. Thank you for a wonderful resource!
Mindblown by the amount of content in this bundle! Real images and aligned with the Science of reading.
You are most welcome Pearl.
