CVC words (Consonant-Vowel-Consonant) are perfect for early reading practice, especially when using continuous blending — a method where you slowly stretch and blend the sounds together without pausing between them.
E.g., the word sad is sounded out as ssssaaaaaaa then sssaaaadddd, rather thans/a/d.
These sounds can be continuously blended or held without having to reshape your mouth: f, v, s, z, m, n, l, r, h.
All the words in my set below start with one of these letters, although they may end with a ‘stop’ letter.
Includes: 24 words Including man, van, fan, nap, map, lap, hat, mat and more
This is part of my Modern Montessori Reading Series - activities based on up to date research on how children learn to read.
