New Zealand Money Games | Coin and Note Recognition Roll and Cover Activity

Make learning New Zealand money active, visual and enjoyable!

Recognising coins and notes can take plenty of repetition—but worksheets alone do not always keep young learners engaged. These low-prep Roll and Cover games turn essential money practice into a fun partner activity children will want to play again.

Children roll a dice, identify the corresponding coin, note or written value, and cover a matching image on the game board. As they play, they repeatedly practise recognising New Zealand currency without the activity feeling repetitive.

This resource includes four differentiated game boards:

• Coin and note pictures matched with picture prompts

• Coin and note pictures matched with written values

• New Zealand notes matched with picture prompts

• New Zealand notes and coins matched with written values

Children practise:

Simply print a board and provide one dice and two colours of counters. Each child uses a different colour, making this an easy partner game for maths rotations, independent work, early finishers, intervention groups or homeschool learning.

The four-board progression allows you to begin with visual matching before moving towards the more abstract skill of reading written money values. This makes it easy to choose a board suited to each child’s current level.

Ideal for New Zealand Curriculum Level 1 learners, approximately ages 5–8, or older children who need additional practice identifying New Zealand currency.
