Election conversations are suddenly everywhere—but many children do not yet understand what people are voting for, why voters receive two votes or how a government is formed.

This New Zealand Election 2026 Scavenger Hunt gives Years 3–6 students an accessible introduction to elections, voting and democracy in Aotearoa.

Instead of beginning with a dense civics worksheet, children move around the classroom locating illustrated fact cards and using them to answer questions. The movement, short information sections and clearly defined task can make an unfamiliar topic feel more approachable and memorable.

Low Preparation, Active Learning
